Is the New World older than the Old World?

While many French châteaux trace their landholdings back centuries, the majority of estates operating today as independent commercial wine producers under the name ‘Château’ began that commercial activity after 1900, with the strongest growth occurring after the introduction of the AOC system in 1935 and accelerating post-1950.

On my tours, you have the opportunity to visit wineries which began in 1848, or 1851, and are still in the hands of the original owners. Don't tell the French, it upsets them.
