The Clare Valley

The Clare Valley is one of South Australia’s most authentic and relaxed wine regions, known for its boutique cellar doors, country towns, and scenic rural setting. Many visitors choose to stay locally for several nights, using the region as a base to explore at an unhurried pace.

Where to Stay in the Clare Valley

The Clare Valley offers a wide range of accommodation, from heritage cottages and country bed and breakfasts to self-contained apartments and vineyard stays. Many guests choose to stay near Clare, Sevenhill, or Auburn to make the most of their time in the region.

There is a wide range of accommodation options, and this page has quick links to a few, starting with a place with everything: the Clare Country Club.  In Clare township, some places are closer than others for walking, and The Mill Apartments & Mill Street Retreatsand Clare Hillside Apartments are all very close to everything. For romantic stays near to Clare, we suggest the views from Neagles Retreat Villas, the historic charm of St Helen’s Cottages, the quality and location of Riesling Trail Cottages and Brice Hill Country Lodge. The lovely Battunga Cottages are hidden just outside of Watervale, and cute Mulberry House is in Watervale near the restaurant.

Planning Your Stay

Most visitors find that spending two to four nights in the Clare Valley allows time to enjoy the wine, food, walking trails, and surrounding towns without rushing. Touring locally makes it easier to relax and experience the region without the need to drive between cellar doors.

For guests staying in the region, Valley Wine Tours offers small-scale wine tours designed to fit comfortably into a Clare Valley stay. Try to tour on your first day.
